The Eight Beatitudes
.
The solemn blessings which mark the opening of the Sermon on the Mount, the very first of Our Lord's sermons in the Gospel of St. Matthew
Beatitudes are words of Jesus about the blessings that come to those who serve Him.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are the sorrowing, they shall be consoled..
Blessed are the lowly, they shall inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for holiness, they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, mercy shall be theirs.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of holiness, the kingdom of heaven is theirs. (Mt. 5:3-10)
The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments were given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.
I am the Lord Thy God. Thou shall not have strange gods before Me.
Thou shall not take the name of the Lord Thy God in vain.
Remember to keep holy the Lord's Day.
Honor thy father and thy mother.
Thou shall not kill.
Thou shall not commit adultery.
Thou shall not steal.
Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife.
Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's goods
Did Jesus give us a Commandment?
Jesus wants us to do more than just obey the Ten Commandments. He gave us two great commandments.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Jesus also said, “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me." At the Last Supper, He said, "A new commandment I give you: love one another as I have loved you."
